“Because of the game industry’s development and Malmö’s potential as a game hub, we from the city of Malmö decided to invest in the future development of Malmö as a game city. We’re confident we have the potential to become a world-leader in this business”, the Mayor of Malmö, Katrin Stjernfeldt Jammeh, said in her presentation.

Yesterday we hosted a much appreciated event on the game industry’s importance for Malmö – now and in the future. Representatives from the public sector, politicians, press, the game industry and other industries were in attendance. Apart from keynotes from Malmö’s Mayor and Game Habitat’s CEO Peter Lübeck, the audience listened to panels sharing insights on Malmö’s continued future as a world-class city for game development and how game studios working with applied games and gamification shape a new line of business.

“In just a decade, the Swedish gaming industry’s turnover has increased from 1 to 35 billion, and Malmö has played a vital role in its development”, Peter Lübeck concluded in his final remarks, adding that the industry in Malmö continues to grow rapidly and that collaborations between the game industry and the public sector could level up the industry – and the city – even faster.
